Welcome to another Witchy Activity Wednesday! Every week, we post a new witchy activity for you to try out. This can be anything from writing prompts and spells, to rituals and meditations. Our goal is to provide you with some fun and easy ways to stay connected to your spirituality, and to help you on your witchy journey.
This weeks activity is about knot magick. Knot magick is an ancient form of sympathetic magic that dates back thousands of years. It’s based on the idea that physical objects, like knots, can be used to represent and influence spiritual energies. By tying physical knots in cord or yarn, you are essentially “tying up” or binding the energy or intention associated with it. When you or untie the knot, the energy is released.
To practice knot magick, all you need is a piece of cord or yarn and something to tie it with (scissors work too). You can use any type of string or cord, just make sure that it’s sturdy enough to hold its shape. Start by tying a knot at one end of your string and think about the intention you’re putting into it. This could be anything from a prayer, wish, or goal that you want to work towards. As you tie each additional knot, repeat this intention in your mind. Once you have tied all the knots, take some time to meditate and focus on your intention and the energy you are creating.
When you’re ready, untie each knot in reverse order, from the last to first. As you do this, imagine that your intention is being released back into the universe and that it will be fulfilled. Once all of the knots have been untied, keep your magickal string near you as a reminder of your intention.
